Last Saturday's review had a clean direction to it. Every asset whose letter grade changed between our October 3 and October 10, 2026 records had moved up a band, and we said so in the headline.
This week the direction reversed.
Seventeen assets carry a different letter grade on our October 17, 2026 record than they carried on our October 10, 2026 record. Ten of the seventeen moved down. Seven moved up. And three of the ten that moved down were inside our top 20 on October 10: BNB, Litecoin and Polkadot all left our B grade inside those seven days.
That count is the difference between two dates, not a tally of every flip. Some assets changed letter and changed back inside the window: Kamino read B at 65.6 at position 11 on October 13, F at the same 65.6 and unranked on October 14, and B at 62.8 at position 12 on October 16, which is the pair we wrote about. Our record on October 17 looks the same as October 10 for Kamino. It was not a quiet week for Kamino.
Three names left our B grade
BNB read B at 69.5, position 10 on our October 14, 2026 record and C at 59.9, position 16 on October 15, 2026. A 9.6 point fall, the largest move of any asset that changed letter this week. On October 17 it still reads C at 59.9, position 16.
Litecoin read B at 62.4, position 14 on October 13, 2026 and C at 56.9, position 19 on October 14, 2026, a fall of 5.5 points. On October 17 it reads C at 56.9, position 21.
Polkadot read B at 61.3, position 13 on October 15, 2026 and C at 58.7, position 18 on October 16, 2026, a fall of 2.6 points. On October 17 it reads C at 58.7, position 18.
A fourth asset made the same crossing over the week. Maple Finance read B at 63.2, position 15 on October 10, 2026 and reads C at 58.4, position 19 on October 17, 2026.
BNB's new letter turns on a tenth of a point
Our published bands: 80 and above is A, 60 to just under 80 is B, 40 to just under 60 is C, and below 40 is F.
Put the three falls against that scale and they are not the same event at all. BNB's 59.9 sits one tenth of a point below the floor of our B band. Polkadot's 58.7 is 1.3 points below it. Litecoin's 56.9 is 3.1 points below it. One letter, three quite different distances from the edge, which is the thing a letter on its own cannot tell you and the reason our record publishes the number next to it.
One caveat on those bands, and it matters for the next section. The bands describe where a score sits. They are not the whole of what produces a letter. Our framework also runs pass or fail disqualifier screens on top of the weighted score, and a tripped screen places an asset in F at any score, including a score high enough for a higher band. So the band tells you where the number is. It does not promise you the letter.
What moved up
Ethereum is the one to start with, because it is the only move into our A grade this week and it happened early. ETH read B / Sound at 79.1, position 3 on our October 11, 2026 record and A / Prime at 84.7, position 2 on October 12, 2026. We published that upgrade in our October 12 issue, and it reads the same on October 17.
That leaves our October 17, 2026 record with three A grades at the top of the ranking, and they are Bitcoin at A / Prime 87.2 in position 1, Ethereum at A / Prime 84.7 in position 2, and Aave at A / Prime 80.4 in position 3.
Raydium read C at 55.2, position 23 on October 12, 2026 and B at 60.8 on October 13, 2026, a rise of 5.6 points. On October 17 it reads B at 60.8, position 14.
And five assets crossed out of F:
LayerZero, F at 54.4 and unranked on October 13, 2026, to C at the same 54.4 at position 25 on October 14, 2026.
Derive, F at 46.0 and unranked on October 13, 2026, to C at the same 46.0 at position 44 on October 14, 2026.
Lighter, F at 50.4 and unranked on October 16, 2026, to C at the same 50.4 at position 39 on October 17, 2026.
Beldex, F at 38.9 and unranked on October 12, 2026, to C at 40.5 at position 56 on October 13, 2026.
Pump.fun, F at 46.8 and unranked on October 14, 2026, to C at 45.2 on October 15, 2026.
Three of those five carry an identical score on both sides of the line.
The F line ran in both directions
Six assets crossed into F over the same week.
Jupiter, C at 55.2 at position 25 on October 16, 2026, to F at the same 55.2 and unranked on October 17, 2026.
Sui, C at 49.4 at position 41 on October 16, 2026, to F at 47.0 and unranked on October 17, 2026.
Hyperliquid, C at 45.5 at position 45 on October 13, 2026, to F at the same 45.5 and unranked on October 14, 2026. It reads F at 51.1 on October 17.
The Graph, C at 42.0 at position 54 on October 13, 2026, to F at 39.6 and unranked on October 14, 2026.
Geodnet, C at 41.6 on October 12, 2026, to F at the same 41.6 and unranked on October 13, 2026.
And the sixth: Gram (prev. Toncoin) read C at 40.0 on October 15, 2026 and F at 37.4, unranked, on October 16, 2026.
Now read Hyperliquid's October 17 line again: F, at 51.1. And Jupiter's: F, at 55.2. Both of those scores sit inside our C range, several points above the floor of it, and both assets are graded F on that date.
There are two roads into an F in our framework. A score below 40 is one. A failed disqualifier screen at any score is the other, and an asset that fails one is graded F whatever its number says. Our record does not publish which road a given asset took, so we do not guess, and we do not name a screen. What we can say is the thing most crypto rankings get wrong: an F is not the bottom of a list. An excluded asset is unranked, which is a different statement from last.
Who crossed whom
A position is a relative thing, so a position change always has a complete account: which assets crossed. Our record carries that, and it is the one piece of "why" we can hand over in full.
BNB's fall from position 10 to position 16 between October 14 and October 15, 2026 is accounted for by six assets crossing it: PancakeSwap from 11 to 10, Arweave from 12 to 11, Convex Finance from 13 to 12, Polkadot from 14 to 13, Raydium from 15 to 14, and Decred from 16 to 15.
Litecoin's fall from position 14 to position 19 between October 13 and October 14, 2026 is accounted for by Convex Finance from 15 to 13, Polkadot from 16 to 14, Raydium from 18 to 15, Decred from 19 to 16, Maple Finance holding position 17, and yearn.finance from 21 to 18.
Polkadot's own fall from position 13 to position 18 between October 15 and October 16, 2026 is accounted for by Kamino, Raydium, LayerZero from 25 to 15, Decred from 15 to 16, and BNB from 16 to 17.
Note what that account does and does not contain. It names who crossed. It says nothing about why any of those assets moved.
What this week's record does not tell you
It does not tell you why any of it happened.
Our record carries, for every asset on every date, the score, the letter, the ranking position, our research notes, and for a position change the other assets that crossed. It does not attach a cause to a score move. The attribution field on every asset in this week's comparison reads not-published, which is why there is no sentence anywhere above explaining why BNB fell 9.6 points or why Jupiter's letter changed while its number did not. We will not invent one.
If you want the reason rather than the fact, log in to your free CryptoGrade account to learn more. The explanation behind a move is work in progress on our side, not a thing our framework cannot reach.
Where to look
Our ranking is at cryptograde.ai/tokens and the framework that produces these scores and letters is written up at cryptograde.ai/framework.
Logged out, our site shows the top 10 crypto assets by our own score, which is our score and not market capitalization. There is a neat accident in this week's record: all three of the assets this review leads on now sit outside that top 10. On October 17, 2026 BNB reads C at 59.9 in position 16, Polkadot reads C at 58.7 in position 18, and Litecoin reads C at 56.9 in position 21. A free account is what puts those three letters in front of you, and each has its own page: BNB, Polkadot, Litecoin.
The free account also opens Alerts. You pick the crypto assets you care about and ask to be told when our letter grade on one of them changes. Four letters changed on October 17 alone. It costs an email address.
One note on why research like this is free for an email address. CryptoGrade does not work commercially with the assets or projects it covers, and it does not sell data. Nobody we grade pays us, which is the only reason a review can report an upgrade at the top of our own ranking and ten downgrades in the same piece.
