Two assets. One scale. Here is what that looks like.
On our record last scored October 22, 2026, Arweave (AR) is graded B / Sound with a score of 64.4, at position 10. Cardano (ADA) is graded C / Speculative with a score of 52.2, at position 29.
Arweave is a data storage protocol. You pay once, and the network's job is to keep the data available. Cardano is a proof of stake smart contract chain with a research-led development process and a governance role for its token. They are not competitors. They do not serve the same users. Almost nothing you would check on one is the same thing you would check on the other.
That is the entire problem a rating is supposed to solve, and it is the reason a price chart cannot solve it. Two charts tell you what each asset did. They do not tell you which asset's case is better supported by evidence, because they are not measuring the case.
What one scale actually requires
Both assets go through the same six dimensions, in the same order, carrying the same weights, and the weights are fixed before either asset is looked at. That is what makes 64.4 and 52.2 comparable numbers rather than two separate opinions that happen to be printed in the same font.
It also means the gap is specific rather than atmospheric. The two are 12.2 points apart on our 2026-10-22 record. They are one letter apart. Neither of those statements requires you to like storage networks or dislike smart contract chains.
Our model's assessment of each, from the same record, says where the distance comes from, in its own words.
On Arweave: supply is "nearly fully circulating (65.65M of 66.0M max), so near-term dilution appears limited," and development activity is present, with "171 commits over 90d with 5 active contributors and a fresh release." Then the limit: that activity "supports ongoing protocol activity, but not a strong read on organic demand or revenue," and value accrual "remains constrained by the supplied evidence: no fee, burn, or staking data is provided here."
On Cardano: the network "has a long-running mainnet, a reference client with continued development, and no supplied evidence of a recent exploit or governance breakdown." Then the limit, which our model puts in economic terms: on-chain usage "remains weak," with value locked of about $62.5M and thirty day fees of about $0.54M as those figures stood in our record when it was scored, "both low for a large-cap smart-contract chain."
Two different shortfalls. One scale that can hold both. Arweave's open question is whether anyone is paying for the thing it does. Cardano's open question is whether the economic activity on it matches what the market is paying for the token. Our model scored both as questions rather than resolving them, which is why one sits in the B band and the other in the C band instead of either being written up as a story.
The letters carry one more impersonal consequence worth knowing. Our model's maximum single position for a B-graded asset read 10% or less on October 22, 2026, and for a C-graded asset, 2% to 3% or less on the same date. That is a grade-level limit our model states for every asset at that letter, not a statement about anyone's portfolio.
The part a letter cannot tell you
Now the turn, and it is the reason this piece exists.
Between our 2026-10-21 record and our 2026-10-22 record, both of these assets changed ranking position, and neither score moved and neither grade moved.
Arweave went from position 9 to position 10. Its score read 64.4 on both records. It moved because Monero re-entered our ranking at position 5, graded B / Sound at 72.5, having been excluded and unranked on the previous day's record at the same score of 72.5.
Cardano went from position 30 to position 29, also at an unchanged 52.2. It crossed above Hedera, which fell from position 25 to position 33, and above Ethereum Name Service, which left the ranking entirely. Monero crossed above Cardano in the same step.
Sit with the shape of that. A reader watching position alone would have seen Arweave slip and would have had no way to know that nothing about Arweave had changed. A reader watching the letter alone would have seen nothing at all, including in the one case on that same pair of dates where the letter was the only thing that did move: Monero's letter changed while its score stayed at 72.5.
A grade is a reading of a record on a date. A position is a statement about everything else on the record on that date. They answer different questions, and the difference is invisible if you only ever see the latest value.
What a free account adds to this
Without an account, our ranking shows the top 10. On the 2026-10-22 record Arweave is at position 10. Cardano is at 29.
But the longer list is not really the point, and we would rather say so than sell it to you. The thing worth having an account for is Alerts, at https://cryptograde.ai/alerts , free with a free account: you pick the crypto assets you care about and ask to be told when our letter grade on one of them changes.
That is a narrow promise and it is deliberately narrow. It is not a price alert. It is not a newsletter about the market. It is our grade on the specific assets you chose, and it is the one thing in this piece you cannot reconstruct by checking a chart, because the change is in our assessment rather than in the asset's price.
The two assets above are a decent illustration of who that is for. If you hold one of them, the number you would want to hear about is not 64.4 or 52.2 on any given morning. It is the morning one of them reads something else.
Why this costs an email address and not money
CryptoGrade does not work commercially with the assets or projects it covers, and it does not sell data. Nobody we grade pays us. That is the only reason a piece like this can name two assets, print both grades, and then print our own model saying that one of them does not establish value accrual and the other has weak on-chain economics for its size.
Every figure above is stamped with the record it was read from. If you want to check our work on either asset, both have a page: Arweave at https://cryptograde.ai/tokens/arweave and Cardano at https://cryptograde.ai/tokens/cardano . The framework the two were put through is written up at https://cryptograde.ai/framework .
